The Academy HS: enrolling 20 rising 9th graders NOw for august 2025!
The Experience
The Experience refers to the central and required part of The Academy HS. It involves the 5 areas referenced below and occurs during 2 hours of collaborative virtual classes Monday-Friday each week with the same 20 students.
During each 4 hour period, students receive instruction from their 2 highly-qualified teachers, have discussions with their peers and/or teachers, make presentations, and demonstrate their understanding of the concepts and information being considered in a constructive and meaningful method.

Real-World Learning
Real-World Learning occurs 2 times per week and is focused on the following 7 Core Competencies:
1. Financial Literacy
2. Practical Life-Skills
3. Communication & Self-Expression
4. Critical Thinking
5. Social & Emotional Awareness
6. Creative Problem Solving
7. Citizenship

Entrepreneurship
Our Academy HS students work together to develop products, pitch their ideas, and launch businesses in their Entrepreneurship class, which occurs 2 times per week.
Uncharted Learning is the curriculum we use which teaches students about entrepreneurship from the pitch to the marketplace. It involves but is not limited to the following skills, information, and/or areas: Research, Finances, Teamwork, Problem-Solving, Writing, Note-Taking, Budgeting, Sales, Marketing, and Critical Thinking.

Life-Coaching
All Academy HS students participate in a weekly Life-Coaching session with a small group of their peers. Students sharpen communication and thinking skills while creating bonds and relationships with other students and their teachers.
Students are involved in the following 5 Areas of Discussion during their Life-Coaching sessions:

2. Self-Awareness & Self-Improvement
3. Serving Others
4. Conflict Resolution
5. Relationships

Individual Academic Mentoring
Over the course of each week, every student receives Individual Academic Mentoring with one of their teachers. During these 20-30 minute sessions, the student's Academic Mentor determines the status of the student's progress with current assignments and provides guidance and support so the student remains focused and on the best path for success to meet their individual academic goals.

Mastery Learning
Mastery Learning drives a student's experience at The Academy HS. This educational approach is based on the idea that students must achieve a high level of understanding (or "mastery") of a given concept or skill before moving on to more advanced experiences. Personalized Learning, Improved Understanding, and Confidence Building are all benefits of the Mastery Learning approach.
The Mastery Transcript is used to document each student's academic journey at The Academy HS. The student's teachers, parents, and the student himself/herself provide work samples, videos, and/or other artifacts, as "proof" of their mastery of specific concepts or skills. We believe Mastery Learning utilizing The Mastery Transcript is a more authentic way to learn and demonstrate knowledge, concepts, and skills acquired while attending our school.
